Hotel Prodeo, berlatarkan tahun 1998 yang digambarkan jelas dengan peristiwa-peristiwa pada masa itu. Dalam novel ini Remy menggunakan tokoh pejabat kepolisian, Kombes Dharsana untuk menunjukkan bahwa pejabat itu cenderung korup, menyalahgunakan wewenang, merekayasa fakta, licik dan kotor, demi mencapai tujuan tertentu.
Untuk mencapai tujuannya, Kombes Dharasana tega menghilangkan nyawa anak tirinya, merekayasa fakta, sampai memanfaatkan orang lain untuk membunuh dan mencelakakan musuh-musuhnya. Namun, sepak terjang Dharsana memang berhasil dilumpuhkan. Apalagi salah seorang rekannya yang juga memiliki jabatan di kepolisian, Rachmat Wirjono, ikut mendukung usaha untuk menghentikan kejahatan yang dilakukan oleh Dharsana.
Novel ini sangat hidup dan menarik karena fakta historis sanggup digabungkan dengan fiksi secara kompleks. Kita dapat belajar bahwa sebuah peristiwa besar tidak pernah berdiri sendiri, namun berdimensi luas dengan kompleksitas keterkaitan yang sulit untuk dijelaskan.

Hotel Prodeo has the background of 1998, which is illustrated clearly with the incidents at that time. It starts from racial riots until the decline of Soeharto as the President, so it can open all of the possibilities behind those incidents.
Remy also illustrated the massacres of Chinese ethnic, that those can be possibly happened because of the engineering based on particular needs. In this novel, Remy used the police character, Kombes Dharsana, to show that officials are tend to do corruption, misuse their powers, engineering the fact, sly and dirty, to reach every purpose.
To reach his purpose, Kombes Dharsana has a heart to lose his step child’s life, engineering the fact, until using another people to kill and bring misfortune on his enemies. However, Dharsana’s existence succeeds to be destroyed. Moreover, one of his partners, who also have function in the police, Rachmat Wirjono, also supports the efforts to stop the crime which is done by Dharsana.
